Terms of Service

1. General provisions

These Terms set out the rules for using the Hang On English mobile app (the “App”) and the related server. The service provider is Jan Komadowski (the “Provider”), contact: support@hang-on.app. By using the App, you accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

2. Services

• Learning – lessons, vocabulary, grammar, reading, quizzes and mistake reviews. Available without an account and free of charge.
• Account – optional, free, with no email address or password. You create it by choosing a nickname.
• Live features – quizzes in rooms with a code, rankings, friends and invitations. They require an account and an internet connection.

The App is free and contains no ads. If we ever introduce paid features, we will tell you in advance; they will not affect what you already have.

3. Requirements

The App may be used by people who are at least 13 years old. To use it you need an Android phone and, for some features, an internet connection.

4. Account and secret

• After you create an account, the App shows your account secret. It is the only way to recover your account on another phone or after reinstalling. We cannot recreate or reset it, because we do not store it in readable form.
• You are responsible for keeping the secret confidential. Anyone who knows it has access to your account.
• One person should have one account.
• You can delete your account in the App at any time. This cannot be undone.
• Accounts inactive for 12 months are deleted automatically.

5. Rules of conduct

Your nickname and “about me” note are visible to other users. The following is prohibited:

• using nicknames or notes that are offensive, vulgar, hateful, impersonate other people or contain personal data,
• cheating in quizzes and rankings, including using bots, modifying the App or server requests,
• flooding other users with invitations or trying to bypass limits (e.g. 30 players in a room, 50 friends),
• disrupting the server, attempting unauthorized access to other people’s accounts or data, or bulk data collection (scraping),
• acting in violation of the law.

For a violation we may remove or change your nickname and note, reset your scores, or suspend or delete your account, without any refund (the services are free).

6. Points and rankings

Points per question depend on correctness and on the answer time measured by the server. Your best score for each quiz counts toward the ranking. Points have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for prizes. We may change the scoring rules and reset rankings, e.g. after detecting abuse or when a quiz’s content changes.

7. Educational content

The App’s content (lessons, quizzes, graphics, code) is protected by copyright and belongs to the Provider or its licensors. You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use it in the App for your own personal use. You may not copy, sell or publish it outside the App without permission.

We do our best to keep the content correct, but it may contain errors. The App is a learning aid and does not guarantee any level of language proficiency or exam result.

8. Availability and changes

The service is provided “as is”. We may change it, suspend it (e.g. for maintenance) or end it. We do not guarantee uninterrupted server operation. Learning content downloaded to your phone also works offline, but live features require a connection.

9. Liability

The Provider is liable for damages as provided by law. We do not exclude or limit liability to the extent it cannot be excluded or limited (including for damage caused intentionally, and toward consumers contrary to mandatory provisions). Otherwise, within the limits of the law, we are not liable for data loss resulting from a lost account secret, uninstalling the App, hardware failure or outages of third-party services.

10. Complaints

Send reports and complaints to support@hang-on.app. Describe the problem and include your phone model and the App version. We will reply within 14 days.

11. Changes to the Terms

We may change the Terms for important reasons, e.g. a change in features or regulations. We will announce a change in the App or on the website at least 14 days in advance. If you do not agree with a change, you can delete your account and stop using the App.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by Polish law. For consumers, this does not deprive them of the protection afforded by mandatory provisions of the country where they live. Disputes are resolved by the courts competent under general rules.
