Delete your account

Effective: October 18, 2026

This page explains how to delete your Hang On English account (developer: Jan Komadowski) and the data linked to it. An account is optional: it is only used for live quizzes, friends and rankings. If you never created one, we hold no personal data about you on our server.

Option 1: delete the account in the app (recommended)

1. Open the Hang On English app on the phone where you are signed in.
2. Tap the account card on the Home screen to open the account screen.
3. Tap Delete account and confirm.

The deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone.

Option 2: request deletion by email

If you no longer have access to the app (for example you lost your phone), write to support@hang-on.app with the subject “Delete my account”. Include your nickname and your recovery code (shown when the account was created), so we can confirm that the account is yours. We do not collect e‑mail addresses, so this is the only way for us to verify you. We will delete the account within 30 days.

If you have neither the app nor the recovery code, the account cannot be linked to you. In that case it is deleted automatically after 12 months of inactivity (see below).

What is deleted

Deleting the account permanently removes from our server:

• your nickname and the optional “about me” note,
• the hash of your recovery code (the code stops working),
• your total points and best scores in live quizzes (you disappear from rankings),
• your friend code and friends list, in both directions,
• your push notification token and any pending room invitations,
• the join date and last activity date.

What is kept, and for how long

• Data on your phone (lesson and quiz progress, settings, offline content) is not on our server. Uninstall the app or clear its data to remove it.
• Live quiz rooms you took part in can still show your nickname and results until they expire automatically, at most 24 hours after the room is created.
• Technical server logs (such as IP address and request time) kept by our infrastructure provider Cloudflare are not tied to your account and are retained only as long as needed for security.
• If you wrote to us by email, we keep that correspondence only as long as needed to handle your request.

We do not keep backups of deleted accounts.

Automatic deletion

Accounts that have been inactive for 12 months are deleted automatically, together with all the data listed above.
